New York, despite being known for their strong basketball programs, is home to several competitive football schools. Aquinas Institute tops Football.com's NY Rankings.

Football in New York might not be as big a deal as basketball, but the state is still a perennial producer of talent.
From Rochester to Flushing, and from Melville to Syracuse there are some top teams looking to gain the nation's respect. Aquinas and Woodbury look to be the two biggest names out there right now, but there's still plenty of time left in the season.
Who will emerge as the best?
1. Aquinas Institute
Though there are many teams vying for that number one spot, Aquinas, to me, has proved that they belong at the top of the list. With definitive victories over Canisius, Union-Endicott, and St. Francis, the Little Irish have turned into big contenders. A legitimate scoring attack teamed with a stifling defense, Aquinas has dominated every game so far and will look to do the same when they take on St. Joseph's.
2. Monroe-Woodbury
Woodbury lit up the scoreboard in their first game against Binghamton, putting up 63 points on the Binghamton's turf. Next game, they shutout Minisink Valley at home, followed by a 42-21 beat-down on Newburgh Free Academy, propelling them to a 3-0 start. The Crusaders take on Kingston this Friday.
3. North Tonawanda
Tonawanda has won all three games by a combined score of 118-20. Those stats may be a bit premature, though, seeing as all three opponents have yet to win a game. This weekend's opponent, Lockport, has already won two big games, so they'll finally face some tough competition.
4. Liverpool
The Warriors have shown a dynamic offense in their first few weeks of action, dealing losses to West Genessee, Fayetteville Manlius, and Rome Free Academy. Liverpool will play one of the toughest teams in the state this weekend on the road. Baker high school is ranked in the New York top 10 by most experts and it could be the top game this weekend
5. St.Anthony
The Friars have only played in two games, but have looked good in both. Both opponents, Delbarton and Monsignor Farrell, have only one loss, coming from St. Anthony. This weekend St Joseph-By-The-Sea travels to town, fresh off a 41-14 victory. They are ranked #15 in the state by MaxPreps, and they should definitely give Anthony a test.
