University of Connecticut- Connecticut Huskies Located in Storrs, CT, the University of Connecticut has garnered national attention for the success of their men and women’s basketball teams. The football program made the jump from 1-AA to 1-A in 1999. After four years as an independent, the Huskies joined the Big East in 2004. That year, the school made its only bowl appearance, earning a victory in the Motor City Bowl. 2007 Connecticut Huskies Outlook: With 14 starters returning, the Connecticut Huskies look to improve on last season’s 4-8 mark. The team has moved former starting quarterback D.J. Hernandez to receiver. The quarterback job will go to either sophomore Dennis Brown or junior Tyler Lorenzen. The Huskies defense should be solid with several starters returning. A cupcake non-conference schedule should land the Huskies four wins, meaning the Huskies would only have to win three conference games to go bowling. That could be too much to ask for considering the strength of the Big East. Connecticut Huskies-Key Departures/Players to Watch Sophomore running back Donald Brown will have to carry the load as the Huskies break in a new quarterback. After an impressive freshman campaign, Brown is ready to shine. On the defensive side of the ball, linebackers Danny Lantana and Ryan Henagar fly around the ball making plays. |
