Georgia Tech University- Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been playing football for over a century. The football team won the national championship in 1917, 1928 and 1990. The Yellow Jackets have not won the ACC title since 1998. Under the leadership of Chan Gailey, the program seems poised to challenge for the conference crown. 2007 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Outlook: The 2007 season is the beginning of the post Calvin Johnson era in Atlanta. The superstar receiver is the property of the Detroit Lions now. Four-year starting quarterback Reggie Ball is also moving on, but that may be a good thing, Junior QB Taylor Bennett appears ready to take the reigns and lead the team. Bennett will rely heavily on running back Tashard Choice, the ACC leading rusher in 2006. A moderate schedule sets the Yellow Jackets up nice for a potential return to the ACC championship game, but Virginia Tech is the clear favorite in the Coastal division. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2007 Schedule Sep 1 - at Notre Dame, 3:30 PM Sep 8 - vs. Samford, 1:30 PM Sep 15 - vs. Boston College, 8:00 PM Sep 22 - at Virginia, TBA Sep 29 - vs. Clemson, TBA Oct 6 - at Maryland, TBA Oct 13 - at Miami-Florida, TBA Oct 20 - vs. Army, TBA Oct 27 - Open Nov 1 - vs. Virginia Tech, 7:30 PM Nov 10 - at Duke, TBA Nov 17 - vs. North Carolina, TBA Nov 24 - vs. Georgia, TBA Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Head Coach Profile Chan Gailey was the former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. As a result, Gailey was interviewed for the NFL coaching vacancies in Pittsburgh and Miami. Other candidates filled the positions and Gailey returned to Georgia Tech. The program is lucky to have him. During his tenure, the team has amassed a 37-27 record. He has failed to beat bitter rival Georgia. Gailey will undoubtedly be linked to NFL coaching vacancies in the future. One thing is evident, the Yellow Jackets will continue to be a competitive program with Gailey at the controls. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets- Key Departures/Players to Watch The departure of Calvin Johnson definitely hurts, but RB Tashard Choice is very capable of carrying the load. WR James Johnson will be expected to make plays in the passing game. Senior middle linebacker Phillip Wheeler anchors the defense. |
