University of Indiana Hoosiers

University of Indiana is a basketball school and has recorded only two conference titles in over 100 years of playing football. Indiana has only eight postseason appearances with the last bowl game coming in 1993. Indiana lost that game 45-20 to Virginia Tech. Indiana has an all time loosing record of 429-587-44. When will the Hoosiers have a notable football program?

The Hoosiers play their home games at Memorial Stadium that has a capacity of 50, 180. The Hoosiers are led onto the field by one of the all- time great fight songs "Indiana, Our Indiana." The Hoosiers proudly wear the Indiana Crimson and Cream.

Indiana has two big rivalries that are also trophy games. In- state foe Purdue is the biggest game of the year. The Hoosiers and Boilermakers battle it out each year for the "Old Oaken Bucket." Indiana and Michigan State slug it out for the "Old Brass Spittoon." The Indiana, Illinois game is also a big rivalry, look for that game to be terrific in 2007.

Indiana Hoosiers 2007 Outlook

Indiana's offense will be lead by 6'7" receiver James Hardy and quarterback, Kellen Lewis. The two have a terrific rapport and with Hardy's continued improvement, this duo should be fun to watch. The Hoosiers have always had offensive line problems. This year looks to be different with four starters returning led by right guard John Sandberg. Lewis was last year's leading rusher but Marcus Thigpen looks to take some of the pressure of Lewis. Thigpen has incredible speed and is a gamer, look for a nice year from him.

Indian's defense was horrid last year only holding the opposition under 20 points once. The Hoosiers should be improved this year led by senior linebacker Adam McClurg. Joe Kremer at defensive tackle is a key for the linebacking corps though, he needs to eat up space in the middle and help improve IU's run defense. Indiana wont improve overnight but 2007 is going to be a better year in Bloomington.

Head Coach Profile

Bill Lynch will be making his Indiana Hoosiers debut in 2007. Lynch will be taking over for Terry Hoeppner who under went brain surgery this past off- season. Lynch started his career as the head coach at Butler before moving onto Ball State as the offensive coordinator. In 1995, he became the Hoosiers quarterbacks coach before moving onto to Ball State once again and DePauw University as head coach. Lynch came back to IU under Hoeppner and was named head coach this past June.

Look for Lynch to lead an emotionally charged Hoosier team that should win games in 2007. Lynch will bring a much needed transformation to the Indiana football program but it will not happen over night.

University of Indiana Hoosiers- Key Departures/Players to Watch

Indiana will be returning Hardy, Lewis and Thigpen so look for some sweet offense this year. Well, maybe not a sweet offense but an improved one. Seniors Leslie Majors and Tracy Porter will help anchor the defensive secondary and Greg Brown will look to eat up space with Kremer and they will serve as the primary defensive tackles for coach Lynch.

McClurg will lead the linebackers and top recruit Fred Jones should come in and provide a spark from the defensive end or weak side linebacker position. Look for improved defense and for Hardy and Lewis to be rolling for IU in 2007.
