Mississippi State University – MSU Bulldogs Mississippi State University is located in Starkville, MS, and was founded in 1878. They have a current enrollment of over 16,000 students, and regardless of dealing with some tough losses over the past several seasons, the MSU students and fans wear their Maroon and White with pride. They've never been known as an NFL breeding ground, but they consistently play a hand in the conference outcome. The program is definitely in rebuilding mode under head coach Sylvester Croom, and it will be interesting to see when they can reach that glass ceiling and break on through to the others side. 2007 Mississippi State Bulldogs Outlook: The 2007 season won't get off to an easy start as the MSU Bulldogs will have to travel next door to Louisiana to do battle with the LSU Tigers. However, it should certainly prepare the team for their first home game against Tulane. Mississippi State has the opportunity to improve on last year's 3-9 overall record, but the conference will be just as tough this year and more than likely, MSU will be looking up from the cellar once November rolls around. 2007 Mississippi State Bulldogs Schedule Date OPPONENT TIME (ET) Location Thu, Aug 30th, 2007 L-S-U 8:00 PM Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Fi Sat, Sep 8th, 2007 at Tulane 7:00 PM Louisiana Superdome Sat, Sep 15th, 2007 at Auburn 12:30 PM Jordan-Hare Stadium Sat, Sep 22nd, 2007 Gardner-Webb 7:00 PM Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Fi Sat, Sep 29th, 2007 at So Carolina TBA Williams-Brice Stadium Sat, Oct 6th, 2007 U-A-B 2:30 PM Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Fi Sat, Oct 13th, 2007 Tennessee TBA Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Fi Sat, Oct 20th, 2007 at West Virginia TBA Milan Puskar Stadium Sat, Oct 27th, 2007 at Kentucky 7:00 PM Commonwealth Stadium Sat, Nov 10th, 2007 Alabama TBA Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Fi Sat, Nov 17th, 2007 at Arkansas TBA War Memorial Stadium - Little Fri, Nov 23rd, 2007 Ole Miss 12:30 PM Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Fi 2007 Mississippi State Bulldogs – Head Coach Profile For MSU, Slyvester Croom is the promise of a better tomorrow. A southerner, raised in Tuscaloosa, AL, he attended the University of Alabama where he became familiar with rich football tradition. His infectious enthusiasm for the game of football won him the job at Mississippi State in 2003, and that same enthusiasm for life has made him one of the most popular figures and speakers in the region. Rebuilding a program takes time, and it begins with recruiting. The next few years of Croom's administration should offer the tell of the tape. The attitude of the team and the program has pushed into a positive light, and we'll see if the game results can follow suit. 2007 Mississippi State Bulldogs – Players To Watch Junior defensive back Derek Pegues is the player to watch for Mississippi State. If he continues to improve his totals in regards to interceptions and passes defensed, while continuing to return punts and kicks as he did last season, he'll make some noise in the SEC. He received All-SEC pre-season honors, and his presence and leadership are now needed to help the Bulldogs get to the next level. |
