Rutgers University- Rutgers Scarlet Knights Rutgers University is one of the oldest most historic colleges in the U.S. The greatest year in Rutgers football history came in 1961 when the team went undefeated. The program had fallen on hard times of late until last season’s incredible run. The Scarlet Knights finished 10-2, including a 37-10 thrashing of Kansas State in the Texas Bowl. 2007 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Outlook: Expectations are high for the Scarlet Knights in 2007. The return of All-American running back Ray Rice should make Rutgers serious contenders for the Big East crown. Along with Rice, QB Mike Teel has another year under his belt and will look to build upon last season’s success. A very favorable schedule sets the Knights up for another double-digit win season. Despite a very rocky start, Schiano has finally been able to impose his identity on the program. Schiano played linebacker at Bucknell University. Before taking the Rutgers job, Schiano was the defensive coordinator at the University of Miami. After his success last season, Schiano was offered the head coaching position at Miami but turned it down. Not only is Schiano a brilliant football mind, he is also loyal to his players and home state. Rutgers Scarlet Knights-Key Departures/Players to Watch RB Ray Rice is a Heisman candidate and future NFL star. His combination of speed and strength make him a nightmare for tacklers to bring down. WR Kenny Britt should make plays for QB Mike Teel in the passing game. Standout performers DL Eric Foster and DE Jamaal Westerman anchor the defense. |
