University of South Florida- South Florida Bulls The South Florida Bulls share a home field with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bulls football program was formed in 1997. In only a decade, coach Jim Leavitt has transformed this program into a quality member of the Big East. South Florida joined the conference in 2005. The school has appeared in bowl games two years running, including a 24-7 victory over East Carolina in the Papajohns.com Bowl. The 2007 season should keep the bowl streak alive. 2007 South Florida Bulls Outlook: The Bulls could be a very dangerous team in the Big East in 2007. Sophomore QB Matt Grothe has a year under his belt and looks to continue his marvelous play from last season. Grothe led the team in passing, rushing and scoring. A favorable schedule means the Bulls could win 10 games this year. A tough non-conference road game at Auburn could ignite their season if the Bulls can pull out a victory. A speedy defense and stellar quarterback play make the Bulls a viable candidate to win the conference title. Leavitt has turned down offers from more prominent universities to remain in Tampa. His loyalty is paying off. The program has improved rapidly and is now one of the better teams in the conference. With Leavitt at the helm, the sky is the limit for the South Florida program. South Florida Bulls-Key Departures//Players to Watch On offense, QB Matt Grothe is the guy to watch. If he plays well, the team will surely follow. Defensively, the Bulls are blessed with talented cover guys. CB Trae Williams and CB Mike Jenkins will both be playing on Sundays. |
