Jerome Bettis is one of the top sports stars of the last decade. He cemented his legacy with the Pittsburgh Steelers 2006 Super Bowl win. On the championship podium, he announced his retirement from football. Soon after, he moved on to broadcasting Nicknamed "The Bus," Bettis is listed fifth all time for running backs. He was picked in the first round by the Los Angeles Rams and won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, rushing for 1,429 yards and over 200 yards in one game. Early on, he was given the nickname "Battering Ram." In 1996, he was traded to the Steelers, where he would have the best years of his career. He was a Pro Bowl selection six times, won Comeback Player of the Year in 1996 and was given the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2002. In the 2004 season, Bettis rushed for over 100 yards in every start he played. By the end of his career, the Bus had rushed for 13,662 yards, 91 touchdowns, with a 3.9-yard average. He also caught 200 passes for 1,449 yards. His longest carry was 71 yards. After retiring from football, Bettis signed on to be a sports commentator for NBC's pre-game show, "Football Night in America," for the network's new Sunday night NFL telecast.
