Troy Aikman - FOX
Lead Play-by-Play Announcer: FOX
Troy Aikman is one of the most heralded quarterbacks of all time and many consider him the best of his era. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. He has been a powerful athlete all his life. His high school, Henryetta in Oklahoma, retired his high school football jersey. He went on to a college career split between the Oklahoma Sooners and the UCLA Bruins, where he had the better experience. He led the Bruins to a 10-2 record and a win over the Florida Gators in the 1987 Aloha Bowl. He won the 1988 Davey O'Brien award as the best quarterback in the nation. He ended up as the number two passing leader for UCLA, having only played three years at the university. Aikman was a lock to be picked number one in the 1989 draft. The same year that legendary coach Tom Landry was fired and Jimmy Johnson was hired, the Cowboys selected Aikman in the draft. There were ups and downs in his rookie year, including both shutouts and the NFL rookie record of 379 yards thrown in a game. Starting in 1991, Aikman was selected for his six consecutive Pro Bowl appearances. His best year was 1992, as he set career highs for passing yards (3,445), completions (302) and touchdowns (23). The Cowboys went to Super Bowl XXVII against the Buffalo Bills and won 52-17. The following year, the Cowboys won the rematch. In 1995, the Cowboys went to the Super Bowl again, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers. Aikman was the first player to have three straight 3,000-yard seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. In 1999, Aikman got a concussion in two consecutive games. In 2000, Aikman received his 10th concussion during a game against the Redskins, in a hit that left a dent in his helmet. Aikman retired soon afterwards in spring 2001. He quickly joined Fox's coverage of the 2001 season as a color commentator. The next year he was part of Fox's leading team, paired up with Joe Buck and Chris Collinsworth. He paired with Buck to announce Super Bowl XXXIX. Aikman is currently paired with Joe Buck for the marquee game on Fox.
