Bio

Antonio Di Natale was born in Naples, Italy on 13 October 1977. Primarily a central striker, he is also able to play on the wing and is known for his technique, goalscoring prowess and creative talents. Due to the fact that his best footballing years came after the age of 30, he is often cited as an example of a late bloomer.

Having joined Empoli as a youth team player, Di Natale graduated to the senior team in 1996, but initially struggled to establish himself in the first team. Three seperate loan spells followed, to Iperzola, Varese and Viareggio, before he returned to Empoli and cemented his place in the starting eleven. His best season with the team came in 2001–02, when he was able to score 18 goals in all competitions. However, the club suffered relegation at the end of the 2003-04 season and Di Natale moved to Udinese.

Since arriving at Udinese, Di Natale has established himself as the club's talisman and one of Serie A's top strikers, helping the side to qualify for multiple European competitions. He was named as Udinese captain in 2007 and finished as the league's top goalscorer in both 2009-10 and 2010-11. He was named in the Serie A Team of the Year for three consecutive years in 2010–11, 2011–12 and 2012–13, while his performances throughout the 2009-10 campaign earned him the Italian Footballer of the Year award.

On the international stage, Di Natale made his debut for Italy in 2002, although took several years to truly establish himself in the team. He was involved in the squads for Euro 2008 and Euro 2012, as well as the 2010 World Cup. At the end of Euro 2012, he announced his retirement from international football, ending up with 42 caps and 11 international goals.
