Bio

Arjen Robben was born in Bedum, Netherlands on 23 January 1984. Although left-footed and capable of playing on the left-hand side of the pitch, Robben primarily operates as a right winger. The main features of his play include his dribbling ability, pace, creativity and goalscoring. Robben has a well-known tendency to cut inside onto his preferred foot in order to have shots on goal from long-range.

Robben played youth team football for Groningen and then made his debut for the senior team in 2000. Then, after establishing himself as a first team player, he moved to PSV Eindhoven. During his time at PSV, Robben formed a partnership with Mateja Kežman and the two were affectionately dubbed 'Batman and Robben'. In 2003, Robben was named as the Netherlands' Young Player of the Year and ahead of the 2004-05 season, he secured a move to Chelsea.

After making his debut for Chelsea in November 2004, Robben adapted quickly to the Premier League and was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the end of the campaign. In both 2004–05 and 2005–06, he contributed towards the club being crowned as Premier League champions. In 2007, he moved to Real Madrid and helped the side to a La Liga title in 2007-08, but the arrival of players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka paved the way for him to move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2009. Since arriving in Germany, Robben has enjoyed further league success and in 2012-13, he scored the winning goal in the UEFA Champions League final and was named as the UEFA Man of the Match.

On the international stage, Robben has represented the Netherlands in a number of major tournaments. Most notably, he was a member of the team which finished as runners up in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. His performances throughout the competition saw him receive a nomination for the Golden Ball award.
