Baup delighted with Marseille's start

By Football News

Marseille made it four wins out of four on Sunday with a convincing 3-1 victory over Rennes at Stade Velodrome.

The victory sealed the club's best start to the season in 80 years, as they stay clear at the top.

"I have a lot of trust in this team, in this group of players," Baup said.

"We feel a big desire to excel, to succeed. The players are enthusiastic and want to play, and we need to keep that desire alive.

"There is also pleasure in the team because he players enjoy what they do, which helps us. But we need to keep up our desire to succeed and keep up our efficiency."

The hosts were on top from the kick-off, and were rewarded with the opener on 35 minutes with Mathieu Valbuena picking out Jeremy Morel at the far post, who fired home his first goal for the club.

Julian Feret equalised in the second half, with a well taken finish to beat Steve Mandanda, but Marseille's strength showed as Rennes simply capitulated before the end.

Andre-Pierre Gignac, long lambasted for his lack of work ethic, scored the goal of the round with a wonderful half volley from distance, before Romain Danze's own goal sealed the win.
