Bio

Blaise Matuidi was born in Toulouse, Haute-Garonne on 9 April 1987. A French international midfielder, he is usually deployed in a central role, but is also able to function as a winger when required. Matuidi is mostly known for his defensive attributes, including his tackling ability, his strength and his positioning, which allows him to intercept passes and break up opposition attacks.

Matuidi spent his youth playing for various teams in the Île-de-France region and quicky developed a reputation as a talented prospect. As a result, he was invited to attend the world renowned Clairefontaine academy, where he spent three seasons between 2000 and 2003. In 2004, he received offers from both Lyon and Troyes, but opted to join the latter, citing their impressive training facilities as a major reason for the decision. Over the course of three seasons with Troyes, Matuidi showed great promise and eventually secured a transfer to Saint-Étienne in the summer of 2007.

It was during his time with Saint-Étienne that Matuidi rose to greater prominence and caught the attention of some of Europe's top clubs, including AC Milan and Arsenal. During the 2009-10 season, Matuidi briefly replaced Loïc Perrin as club captain, although Perrin was reinstated as skipper later in the year. Prior to the beginning of the 2011-12 season, he completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee of €7.5 million.

Upon joining the club, Matuidi served as a replacement for Claude Makélélé, who had just retired from football. After impressing during his debut season, he enjoyed even greater success in 2012-13, helping the team to win the Ligue 1 title. Throughout the campaign, Matuidi made 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring a career-best total of 8 goals along the way. As a result of his impressive displays, he was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

On the international stage, Matuidi represented France at both under-19 and under-21 level. He made his first appearance for the senior team in 2010, during a Euro 2012 qualifying match with Bosnia and Herzegovina and then scored his first international goal against the Netherlands in March 2014.
