Blanc rues missed chances

By Football News

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc was baffled as his dominant side failed to beat Ajaccio at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions amassed 39 shots on goal, including 17 on target, as poor finishing, bad luck and the stunning goalkeeping performance of Ajaccio's Guillermo Ochoa meant the capital club could only scrape a 1-1 draw.

Edinson Cavani's 86th-minute equaliser secured a point for PSG after Benoit Pedretti's ninth-minute opener as Blanc lamented going behind first in both of their Ligue 1 matches this campaign.

"We're not ready yet, we knew that," Blanc said.

"The real disappointment is losing two points tonight and we deserved to win.

"Ajaccio and Montpellier took advantage of their opportunity to open the scoring and this is one opportunity too many.

"Even if we didn't make the best of starts though, our first half was not bad."

Blanc was not going to keep Cavani on the pitch for 90 minutes but decided to change his plans when chasing the equaliser.

The 47-year-old Frenchman also believes a partnership between the Uruguayan striker and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has huge potential

"I had planned not to play Cavani all match and we took a risk, but we did well to keep it on the ground," Blanc said.

"The challenge will be to combine Zlatan and Edinson and if we get there, we will score many goals."
