Palmeiras have thumped Guarani 4-1 to win their fifth game in a row in all competitions and move up to fifth in the Campeonato Paulista.
With Corinthians suffering a shock 2-1 loss to Linense, it opened the door for Palmeiras to move within four positions and seven points of league-leaders Sao Paulo.
Leo Gago, Vilson, Charles and Ronny scored the goals for Palmeiras on Sunday, who won their third-straight match in the Sao Paulo state championship.
Palmeiras started strongly at the Estadio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho with Ronny feeding Tiago Real in the 12th minute, who released Leo Gago in behind Guarani's defence to smash home the opening goal.
The hosts led 2-0 at half-time after Vilson's strong header in the 30th minute from Souza's cross.
After Everton pulled a goal back from Guarani in the 73rd minute, Charles rebuilt Palmeiras' two-goal lead 15 minutes later with a powerful driver from the edge of the area.
Ronny wrapped up the win in second-half stoppage time, playing a one-two with Vinicius on the half-way line before bursting clear to score Palmeiras' fourth goal.
The victory took Palmeiras to 34 points, two ahead of Corinthians, who were overhauled by Linense.
Corinthians led through a third-minute goal from Paolo Guerrero but the home team fought back in the second half with Joao Sales and Leandro Brasilia scoring the goals for Linense.
In other results, Botafogo SP defeated Bragantino 2-1, Mogi Mirim moved into third position with a 2-1 triumph over Sao Bernardo and Ponte Preta knocked off Mirassol 2-0.
