Bio

Santiago Cazorla González, known more simply as Santi Cazorla, was born in Llanera, Asturias on 13 December 1984. A Spanish international, Cazorla is primarily a central midfield playmaker, but is also able to play on either wing. He is noted for his close control, creative talents, ability to dictate the tempo of matches and for being ambidextrous. In 2013, he was named as the tenth best footballer in the world by Bloomberg.

Cazorla began playing youth team football with Real Oviedo in 1996, before signing for Villarreal in 2003. Although he broke into the first team squad, he failed to make a major impression and signed for Recreativo prior to the 2006-07 campaign. Over the course of that season, he received huge priase and won the Don Balón award for Spanish Player of the Year. In the summer of 2007, Villarreal made use of a buy-back clause in his contract to re-sign him. During his second spell with Villarreal, Cazorla impressed many with the quality of his performances and famously rejected an advance from Real Madrid in 2008. Ahead of the 2011-12 season, he transferred to Málaga, where he stayed for just one year, scoring 9 goals.

In August 2012, Cazorla completed a move to Premier League side Arsenal, where he quickly emerged as a fan favourite and a key member of the team. His performances drew rave reviews and over the course of the campaign, he scored a total of 12 goals in all competitions. At the end of his first season with The Gunners, he was named as the club's Player of the Year.

Santi Cazorla made his debut for Spain's national team in May 2008 and played a part in their successful Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 campaigns. However, he missed out on a place in the 2010 World Cup-winning squad via injury. In total, he has earned more than 50 caps for his country.
