Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they will host a match between Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Liverpool Legends this year.

The South African giants will host the Merseyside club on the 16th of November in the 2010 World Cup venue, Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The last time Liverpool visited South Africa was back in 1994 along with another English side Aston Villa.

The travelling squad of Liverpool Legends will include former star players like Bruce Grobbelaar, Robbie Fowler and John Barnes who said in the press conference during the launch of the match that South Africa is no foreign country to Liverpool.

“Liverpool has always enjoyed a massive fan base in South Africa, which was evident when the first team toured Mzansi in 1994, and this opportunity is to see some greats, not just as a club, but of English football as a whole, it will be fantastic for local fans.” Said Barnes who is currently a football analyst in SuperSport TV in South Africa

Kaizer Chiefs will go to this encounter optimistic as they held The Reds to a draw back in 1994 with Amakhosi fan favourite by then Docter Khumalo delighted to face one of the successful clubs as far as European football is concern. “We are happy to have an opportunity to play a club of Liverpool’s stature.” Says the 46-year old who is currently an assistant coach at Kaizer Chiefs FC

“It will be an honour for us to play in front of our passionate fans and show some of the skills that has not only won us trophies but a lot of friends around the world. We have some great players in our history and I believe they will rise up to the occasion on the day.”

Few names to represent Kaizer Chiefs in November friendly will be former Turkish based star John Moshoeu and former Leeds United defender and captain Lucas Radebe.
