By Football News
Gremio have advanced to the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals after a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the round-of-16 second-leg.
Barcelona's Arrinton Narciso Mina netted the game's opener with an away goal in the 54th minute to even the two-legged tie after Brazilian side Gremio defeated Barcelona 1-0 in Ecuador in the first leg on September 26.
But an own goal from Jose Perlaza in the 66th minute and a strike during injury time from Ze Roberto in the second half progressed Gremio to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Universidad Catolica moved past the round of 16 despite suffering a 3-1 loss to Goianiense away from home.
Chilean outfit Universidad held a two-goal advantage over Goianiense after winning the first leg over the Brazilian side 2-0 at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo on October 3.
On Wednesday, Goianiense scored the game's first two goals through Joilson in the 13th minute and Renie 10 minutes before the break, as they levelled the tie.
But Michael Rios' goal with three minutes remaining in the first half saw Universidad Catolica through to the quarter-finals on away goals, despite Marcio scoring Goianiense's third from the spot early in the second half.
Sao Paulo, meanwhile, drew with Liga de Loja 0-0 at home and will advance to the quarter-finals on away goals.
Bermudez's goal against Liga de Loja in Sao Paulo's 1-1 draw away from home on September 26 was enough to qualify the Brazilian side to the next round after a goalless draw in Ecuador on Wednesday.
