Copa Sudamericana wrap: Universidad, Mineros progress

By Football News

After drawing the first leg 1-1 away from home on August 2, Universidad ultimately enjoyed a straight forward passage to the next stage, registering a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Hans Martinez opened the scoring for the hosts in the 10th minute at Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, with Michael Rios doubling their advantage from the penalty spot on 28 minutes.

Pablo Gonzalez added a third with 18 minutes remaining to put the outcome beyond all doubt.

Also on Thursday, Venezuelan side Mineros completed a 3-1 aggregate win over La Equidad of Colombia.

Mineros, who won 1-0 in the first leg away from home, ran out 2-1 winners in the return at Centro Total de Entretenimiento Cachamay.

Carmelo Valencia netted for the visitors inside the first 60 seconds to level the aggregate scores, but goals from Luis Jose Vallenilla Pacheco and Alejandro Guerra in the first and second half respectively sent the home side through to the second round.

They were joined by Guarani, who progressed courtesy of the away goals rule after drawing 2-2 on aggregate with Oriente Petrolero.

Bolivian side Oriente Petrolero had won the first leg 1-0 away from home, but they went down 2-1 in the return.

Goals for the visitors from Sergio Orteman and Dante Lopez, either side of Danilo Carando's goal for Oriente, saw Paraguayans Guarani progress.
