Coupe de France Wrap: Bordeaux progress to final

By Football News

Bordeaux secured their place in the Coupe de France final as they came from behind to battle to a 2-1 win at Troyes on Tuesday.

After securing victory in a tie which was rescheduled due to flooding in the areas surrounding the Stade de L'Aube last week, Francis Gillot's side will now face Evian in the final at the Stade de France on May 31 thanks to a strike from Cheick Diabate and an own-goal from home defender Jeremie Brechet.

Troyes, who are embroiled in a relegation fight at the bottom of Ligue 1, took the lead seven minutes into the game, Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, latching on to a through ball following a mistake from Lamine Sane to slot the ball past Cedric Carrasso.

Bordeaux responded well, with Diabate heading over from six yards and midfielder Gregory Sertic going close with a long-range effort before the visitors finally found the leveller four minutes before half-time, Diabate meeting Brazilian defender Mariano's cross in instinctive fashion to power a volley into the net.

Gillot's men started the second half the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded after 63 minutes, Brechet sweeping the ball past Matthieu Dreyer and into his own net.

That goal seemed to deflate Troyes considerably and, although they did go close with Brazilian striker Marcos dos Santos forcing a reflex save from point-blank range from Carrasso and substitute Stephane Darbion spooning a shot over the bar late on, they were unable to find the leveller and Bordeaux clung on to reach their first domestic final since 2010, when they were beaten in the Coupe de la Ligue final by Marseille.

These two sides will do battle again in the league on Sunday, where Troyes will be desperate for the points as they try and escape the relegation zone, however, for now it is Bordeaux who will celebrate as they eye their first silverware since doing the Ligue 1 and Coupe de la Ligue double under Laurent Blanc four years ago.
