Bio

Austrian international, David Alaba, was born in Vienna on 24 June 1992. Throughout his career so far, he has demonstrated great versatility, playing in a number of different roles, including as a central midfielder, but has established himself primarily as a left back. He is known for his pace and attacking ability and a key feature of his play is overlapping runs, which enable him to deliver crosses into the box.

In 2001, Alaba began his youth career with SV Aspern, before moving to Austria Wien the following year. After climbing through the ranks, he made several appearances for the reserve team and made it onto the first team's substitutes bench, but moved to Bayern Munich in 2008, before ever playing a competitive senior game for Austria Wien.

Since joining Bayern Munich, Alaba has made a name for himself as one of the elite full backs in European football. After a loan spell with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in 2010-11, he returned to Bayern and made a total of 30 league appearances during the 2011–12 campaign. Alaba and Bayern Munich enjoyed huge success during the 2012-13 season, winning the Bundesliga title, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League. His performances throughout the year were widely praised and he was rewarded with a place in the 2013 UEFA Team of the Year. Further success followed, as Bayern also claimed the 2013 UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, while Alaba was named as the Austrian Sports Personality of the Year.

Alaba represented Austria at various youth levels, before making his debut for the senior team in October 2009, at the age of just 17. In the process, he became the youngest footballer to ever play for the side. In 2011, at the age of 19, he was voted as Austrian Footballer of the Year; an award which he also collected in 2012 and 2013.
