Desert Friendlies: Dynamo follow up loss to San Jose with a win over Colorado
By Zach Woosley
The Houston Dynamo are in Tuscon, Arizona participating in the Desert Friendlies presented by FC Tuscon. So far the Dynamo are 1-1 in two games, falling to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 on 1/29 and defeating the Colorado Rapids last night 1-0.
Earthquakes trialist Alexandre Emerson scored twice against the Dynamo in their Desert Friendlies opener to give San Jose the 2-0 victory. The Dynamo weren't able to get on the scoreboard but did generate several good chances. The match featured trialist Mike Chabala, Franck Songo’o (who last played for the Portland Timbers), and Calum Elliot.
Last night's match turned out better for Houston thanks to a goal just 63 seconds in the match from trialist Calum Elliot. Rookie Jason Johnson earned an assist on the goal. The goal was setup by a turnover in the midfield that was quickly moved out to Johnson on the left wing. The first round pick from this year's SuperDraft worked his way in to the box, fighting over a couple Rapids defenders before finding Elliot at the top of the box. The Scottish trialist made a great turn, spinning off his defender and putting his shot under the crossbar.
The Dynamo wrap-up their trip to Arizona on Saturday when they face the Vancouver Whitecaps. The match will be streamed live on HoustonDynamo.com
