FA Cup wrap: Brentford see off Bradford in extra-time
By Football News
Bradford City could not repeat their League Cup exploits in the FA Cup on Tuesday, going down 4-2 away to Brentford in the second round.
League Two club Bradford hit the headlines with a famous upset victory over Arsenal in the League Cup quarter-finals last week.
But they failed to reach the third round of the FA Cup, despite having led twice in their match against League One side Brentford.
Kyel Reid opened the scoring for the visitors in the 34th minute at Griffin Park, with Marcello Trotta levelling from the penalty spot for Brentford.
Neither side proved able to force a breakthrough in regulation play, forcing the tie into extra-time.
Alan Connell converted a penalty to restore Bradford's lead on 94 minutes, before Trotta again returned fire eight minutes later.
Brentford then pulled away in the closing stages, Clayton Donaldson and Harry Forrester scoring in the space of three minutes to book a meeting with Southend United in the third round.
Elsewhere, James Constable and Peter Leven were on target as Oxford United saw off Accrington Stanley 2-0 at home.
Rotherham United overcome Notts County 3-0 away from home, with Ben Pringle, Mark Bradley and Daniel Nardiello claiming all the goals in the first half.
Notts County were forced to play an hour of the match with 10 men following the dismissal of Damion Stewart.
Oxford await the visit of Sheffield United in the next round, while Rotherham go away to Aldershot.
In the other match on Tuesday, Barrow were held 1-1 at home to Macclesfield Town in their second-round match, with a replay now required to determine which team will advance to play Championship side Cardiff City.
