Bio

Radamel Falcao García Zárate, known more simply as Radamel Falcao, was born in Santa Marta on 10 February 1986. Throughout his career, Falcao has been a prolific goalscorer for club and country and is able to score all kinds of goals. Despite being under 6 feet tall, he has great ability in the air and is comfortable with both his right and left foot. In 2012, Fabio Capello described him as being "as impressive as Lionel Messi."

Having started his senior career with Lanceros Boyacá, Falcao earned a move to River Plate in 2005 and went on to score 45 goals for the club. In 2008, he helped them to win the Primera División title, before moving to Europe in 2009, in order to join FC Porto. The highlight of his Porto career came in 2010-11, when the team won the Primeira Liga without losing a single game and also claimed the UEFA Europa League crown. Over the course of the season, Falcao scored 38 goals in all competitions and was the Europa League's top goalscorer.

The following year, he joined Spanish side Atlético Madrid and scored 36 goals for the club as they too won the UEFA Europa League. His performances in Europe in both 2010-11 and 2011-12 saw him dubbed the 'King of the Europa League' by several sources. Later in 2012, Falcao was able to help Atlético Madrid to win the UEFA Super Cup, scoring a hattrick against Chelsea. The 2012-13 season saw Falcao score 28 league goals; his best total for any club, and the team were able to lift the Copa del Rey. However, prior to the 2013-14 season, he once again switched clubs, this time joining AS Monaco. Unfortunately, his first season with Monaco was plagued by injury.

At international level, Falcao has earned more than 50 caps for Colombia and had previously helped his country to win the South American Youth Championship back in 2005.
