Bio

Jesús Navas González, usually shortened to Jesús Navas, was born in Los Palacios, Seville on 21 November 1985. Primarily a right winger, he is also able to play in a central attacking midfield role and is known for his pace, dribbling skills, crossing and ability to retain possession under pressure. Throughout his career, he has been a huge creative influence for his teams, often contributing a large number of assists for the other attacking players.

Navas joined Sevilla as a 15 year old youth team player in 2000 and climbed through the ranks quickly, making his La Liga debut in November 2003. Throughout the 2003-04 season, he made several more appearances for the first team, but featured more regularly for the club's 'B' team, before being promoted to the senior side on a full time basis at the end of the campaign. The 2004-05 season marked his true breakthrough into the first team, as he made 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and receiving praise for the quality of his performances.

Major success followed, as Sevilla claimed the 2005-06 UEFA Cup, as well as the 2006 UEFA Super Cup. Navas was ever-present during the UEFA Cup campaign and was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, although it eventually broke down due to fears of homesickness. The following season, Navas helped Sevilla to retain the UEFA Cup and lift the Copa del Rey, while in 2008-09, he helped the club to mount a serious title challenge, which eventually resulted in a third place finish.

After winning the second Copa del Rey of his career in 2009–10, Navas spent three more trophyless seasons with Sevilla. Then, ahead of the 2013-14 season, he moved to England to join Manchester City for a fee of around £15 million. In March 2014, he won his first trophy with the team, the League Cup. In the competition's final, he scored the last goal in a 3-1 victory over Sunderland.

At international level, Navas played for Spain at under-21 level in 2004 and 2005, but anxiety problems and homesickness hindered his progress to the senior team. Ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he made himself available for selection and subsequently contributed to Spain winning that tournament, as well as UEFA Euro 2012.
