Bio

Jordi Alba Ramos, known more simply as Jordi Alba, was born in L'Hospitalet, Spain on 21 March 1989. Having started his career as a speedy winger, he has subsequently established himself as an attack-minded left back and is now widely recognised as one of the elite full backs in European football.

Alba's career began at Barcelona's youth academy, but he was released in 2005 and moved to UE Cornellà. During his time there, he attracted the attention of Valencia, who signed him in 2007 for a fee of €6,000. After impressing with the reserve team, Alba was sent out on loan to Gimnàstic for the duration of the 2008-09 season, before returning to Valencia the following year. Over the course of the next three seasons, Alba was converted into a more defensive player by the club's manager, Unai Emery, and became a regular fixture in the team.

Due to his impressive performances, Alba became linked with a move away from Valencia and during the summer of 2012, he completed a move back to his boyhood club, Barcelona, for a fee of around €14 million. He went on to play a total of 44 games in all competitions during the 2012-13 season, helping the team to win both the Supercopa de España and the league title.

Alba made his debut for Spain's senior national team in 2011 and made his first appearance at a major international tournament at Euro 2012, helping the side to win the competition. In the final, he scored the second goal of a 4-0 win over Italy and his performances throughout the tournament received huge praise. He was eventually named as a part of the Team of the Tournament. In addition, since 2013, Alba has played friendly matches for the Catalonia national team, who are not affiliated with either UEFA or FIFA.
