About

Kasımpaşa Spor Kulübü was established in Istanbul in 1921. Initially operating under the name Altıntuğ, the team has bounced between the top and second tiers in recent seasons, achieving promotion to the top flight three times since the 2006-07 season. Historically, the club's biggest rivals have been Fatih Karagümrük SK.

The club played their first year of competitive football in the 1924-25 season. From 1939 until 1959, Kasımpaşa competed in the Istanbul First League. In 1959, they gained promotion to the Türkiye Ligi, now known as the Süper Lig, for the first time. After surviving in the league for five seasons, Kasımpaşa were relegated once again. They then remained away from the top tier of Turkish football for more than 40 seasons.

At the conclusion of the 2006-07 season, the club contested a promotion playoff match with Altay. After twice coming back from losing positions, Kasımpaşa eventually won the game via a penalty shootout to return to the Süper Lig. Since that time, the club has suffered multiple relegations and promotions, winning playoff games in 2008–09 and 2011–12. Major silverware has been beyond the reach of the team so far. In 2009-10, they managed an 8th place finish in the league. The club's highest ever league position was 5th place in 1961-62.

The current Kasımpaşa squad contains some of the more famous players to have played for the club throughout their history. Amongst the best-known players are Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, Nigerian international Kalu Uche and the German international midfielder Fabian Ernst, who captains the side.

Kasımpaşa play their home matches at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium in Istanbul. The ground is named after the current Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was born in the neighbourhood. The stadium underwent renovations in 2005, which brought its maximum capacity up to 14,234.
