'No regrets' over Napoli campaign, says Hamsik
By Football News
Napoli attacker Marek Hamsik has insisted he has "no regrets" over his side's failure to win the Serie A title this term.
Walter Mazzarri's men trail leaders Juventus by 11 points but, with just four games remaining, appear unlikely to overturn the deficit at the summit.
But Hamsik believes that there would be no shame in finishing second, an outcome which seems likely given Napoli's seven-point lead over third-placed Milan.
"We had a great campaign, only getting it wrong in a few games. Unfortunately, Juventus did better," he told Sky Sport Italia.
"I have no regrets over the Scudetto race, as we are improving and second place is certainly not to be sniffed at. In order to make that extra step up in quality we must avoid the wrong approach against teams like Torino, Sampdoria and Bologna."
The Slovakia international also voiced his hope that the Italian club can keep hold of coach Mazzarri and striker Edinson Cavani at the end of the season.
"I have never had regrets in my life and am happy to be here. I hope Mazzarri and Cavani can stay here, as they are our strength," he added.
"Edi is relaxed and not thinking about the transfer gossip because we still have to earn second place. At the end of the season he will have two months to make a decision.
"Mazzarri has helped me in every aspect. How do I see the next five years panning out? For the moment I am focused on securing the Champions League place, then enjoying that competition next season and hopefully even fight for the Scudetto."
