Bio

Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior, usually shortened to Oscar, was born in Americana, São Paulo on 9 September 1991. An attacking midfield playmaker, who is capable of playing centrally or on the wing, he is noted for his dribbling, technique and vision, which enables him to carve out chances for teammates. His playing style has often been compared to that of his compatriot, Kaká.

During his youth, Oscar initially played for União Barbarense, but was spotted by São Paulo FC's scouts and joined up with their youth academy in 2004, at the age of 13. During the 2009 season, he played 11 games for the club, despite being just 17 years old at the time. However, after a contractual dispute, he joined Internacional in 2010. His appearances were limited during his first season with the team, due to injury, but in 2011, he played 44 games in total, scoring 13 goals.

In the summer of 2012, Oscar earned a big money move to Chelsea, who paid a transfer fee in excess of £19 million for his services. He inherited the number 11 jersey previously worn by Didier Drogba, and impressed with his first few substitute appearances. Oscar made his first start for the club in a Champions League game against Juventus, scoring two goals and being named as Man of the Match. His performances throughout the remainder of the season also earned praise and he was considered a key player in the team which won the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League trophy.

On the international scene, Oscar enjoyed significant success at youth level, helping Brazil to win the South American Youth Championship and the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2011, as well as a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games. He made his debut for the senior team in 2011 and played in every game as Brazil went on to win the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
