Bio

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was born in Laval, France on 18 June 1989. A versatile attacking player, he is able to play as a centre forward, or on the flanks as a winger and is known for his pace and ability to score goals.

A product of the AC Milan youth academy, Aubameyang joined the club in 2007 and remained under contract until 2011, but never played an official match for the side. During his time with Milan, he starred in the 2007 Champions Youth Cup, where he finished as the tournament's top goalscorer. He was sent out on loan to Dijon FCO for the duration of the 2008-09 season, in order to gain first team experience and went on to score 10 goals for the club in all competitions, enhancing his reputation as a promising young talent.

Further loan spells followed, with Aubameyang joining Lille for the 2009-10 season. He spent the first half of the 2010-11 season with AS Monaco, scoring 2 goals, before joining Saint-Étienne for the second half of the season. Saint-Étienne then opted to extend his loan spell for the 2011-12 campaign and completed a permanent deal for the player midway through the season. It was during his time with Saint-Étienne that Aubameyang established himself as a prolific goalscorer, registering 18 goals in 2011–12 and 21 goals the following season. His performances attracted Borussia Dortmund, who signed him in the summer of 2013.

Upon joining Dortmund, Aubameyang enjoyed instant success, appearing as a substitute as the team beat Bayern Munich to win the 2013 DFL-Supercup. On his first start for the club, a Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg, he scored a hattrick. Then, in November, he scored his first European goal for the club, during a Champions League match with Napoli.

Despite being invited to play youth team football for Italy, Aubameyang opted instead to represent the country of his birth, France, at under-21 level. However, at senior international level, he decided to play for Gabon's national team. He was an important part of the squad which reached the African Nations Cup quarter finals in 2012, scoring three goals in the competition. Later the same year, he represented his country in the Olympic Games, where he scored their only goal.
