Polish Ekstraklasa: Piast Gliwice 1 Jagiellonia 1

By Football News

Jakub Slowik earned Jagiellonia a point in the Polish Ekstraklasa by saving a late penalty against Piast Gliwice in their 1-1 draw.

Artis Lazdins put Piast ahead but Jagiellonia hit back just eight minutes later through Tomasz Frankowski in a match that saw both sides finish with 10 men on Saturday.

Hosts Piast were in front shortly after the half an hour, as Latvian Lazdins found the target thanks to a deflected shot, his first goal of the season.

Frankowski restored parity for Jagiellonia just eight minutes later- finishing well past Dariusz Trela from a Tomasz Kupisz pass.

Piast's second-half task was made even harder when goalkeeper Trela received a straight red card for bringing down Kupisz on the edge of the box.

That forced his replacement, Jakub Szmatula, straight into the action but the resulting free-kick was well wide of the mark from Dani Quintana.

Jagiellonia were also reduced to 10 men late on, when Filip Modelski picked up his second yellow card for bringing Tomasz Podgorski in the box.

That gave Piast substitute Marcin Robak the chance to seal victory from the spot but a superb save from keeper Slowik earned the visitors a share of the spoils.
