Bio

Franck Henry Pierre Ribéry was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer on 7 April 1983. Known for his superb close control, dribbling ability, pace, creativity and flair, he is considered one of the best French players of his generation and a hugely important player for both club and country. Although a right-footed winger, he is most comfortable playing on the left flank, from which he is able to cut inside and offer a more direct goal threat.

Having started his career at Boulogne in 2000, Ribéry moved clubs several times over the next few years, playing for Alès, Brest, Metz and Galatasaray. In the summer of 2005, after a contractual dispute with Galatasaray, he moved back to France in order to join Marseille. Over the course of the next two seasons, he was able to establish himself as one of Europe's brightest young talents and earned a move to German giants Bayern Munich ahead of the 2007-08 campaign. Once in Germany, he played a large role in the team winning the Bundesliga title in 2007–08 and 2009–10. His performances in the 2007-08 season resulted in him being named as Footballer of the Year in Germany.

However, the 2012-13 season brought about the greatest success of his career so far, as Bayern won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League treble. Ribéry received numerous individual awards for his contribution, including the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award, UEFA Champions League Best Player Award and the Bundesliga Player Of The Year Award. At the end of the calendar year, he placed third in the voting for the FIFA Ballon d'Or and was named in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI.

At international level, Ribéry has represented France in several major tournaments and was part of the team that finished as runners up in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
