Spurs stars targeted by racist chants

By Football News

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas was disappointed to hear his players targeted by racist chanting during Spurs' 4-1 defeat at Inter.

Despite the heavy defeat on Thursday, an extra-time goal from Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor sent the north London club to the Europa League quarter-finals on away goals, yet their success has been overshadowed by the behaviour of Inter fans at San Siro.

Both Adebayor and Kyle Naughton were targeted by racist chants, which were confirmed by Villas-Boas afterwards.

"Chants were very, very easy to hear," Villas-Boas told reporters.

"It's difficult for Inter, we have seen it before. It doesn't mar the game but it is something to be avoided."

Lazio were fined by UEFA after their fans racially abused players during Europa League meetings with Spurs and Maribor earlier this season, while a third indiscretion against Borussia Moenchengladbach led to their last-16 tie against Stuttgart being played behind closed doors.
