Swansea expect Laudrup to honour contract

By Football News

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins is confident manager Michael Laudrup will see out his current deal with the Premier League outfit.

Laudrup, whose contract expires in 2014, succeeded Brendan Rodgers in June and has guided Swansea to an impressive ninth after 22 league games.

The 48-year-old's efforts have not gone unnoticed with La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly interested should Jose Mourinho depart at season's end.

However, Jenkins expects Laudrup to remain and is delighted with how he has settled into managerial life in Wales.

"He's doing very well this season, I fully expect him to be with us and see through his contract with us," he told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"Michael has settled in very well. After losing Brendan (Rodgers) we had big changes in the summer that we had to cope with and things have gone very well.

"I don't think you could have wished for a nicer person to have come in as manager than Michael Laudrup.

"I think, match-by-match, tactically and the way he puts our team out and the way we approach different games, he's getting better and better and quite rightly so he's going to make headlines himself."

Along with their league exploits, Swansea currently hold a 2-0 advantage heading into the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final against Chelsea and Jenkins feels that the Dane will be equally happy with the start that he has made at the Swans.

He added: "He's come here to do a job for a few years to try and progress our football club, which obviously he's doing very well this season.

"Ultimately he's not here to promote himself, he's a worldwide figure in his own right as a player, and I think he's got time on his side to develop anything else he wants to do in management."

Laudrup recently gained, in an unofficial poll, 15.9 per cent support of Real Madrid fans backing him to replace Mourinho if the Portuguese tactician leaves but Jenkins remains relaxed.

"I did see that and I saw Michael about it. I just made one condition - that he takes me with him as well!"
