A few months ago, Barcelona coach Gustavo Costas was being celebrated as the biggest idol of El Ídolo (The Idol). Costas. with the help of goalscorer Narciso Mina saw gave Barcelona their 14th league title- tops in Ecuador. The expectations were sky high but their gyroscpoes were off- way off.  Barcelona suffered and the team would be winless in their first nine matches of the season in all competitions.  There was even talk about Costas stepping down after the team's 5-2 loss to upstarts Independiente at the Estadio Monumental.

Still the team looked to revert the situation. Costas as well as Frickson Erazo have reiterated that the team's rallying cry has been "attitude will get you through". It was attitude that they've shown in matches against Nacional and and Toluca, but luck was not on their side.
