Bio

Arturo Erasmo Vidal Pardo, usually known more simply as Arturo Vidal, was born in San Joaquín, Santiago on 22 May 1987. Although able to play in a number of different positions, Vidal is best-suited to central midfield, where he plays a box-to-box role. His tough tackling and tenacity have led to him receiving the nickname 'Il Guerriero', which translates to 'The Warrior'.

Vidal began his youth career with Melipilla, before moving to Colo-Colo. He graduated to the senior team in 2005 and helped the club to win the 2006 Apertura and Clausura tournaments, catching the eye of various European scouts along the way. In the summer of 2007, he completed a move to German club Bayer Leverkusen. During his time with the side, he helped them to finish as runners up in both the German Cup and the Bundesliga. His performances in the 2010-11 season earned him a spot in the Bundesliga's All-Star Team and impressed Juventus, who signed him for a fee of €10.5 million.

Upon arriving in Serie A, Vidal took little time to settle and quickly established himself as an important first team player. He played a crucial role in the team's unbeaten 2011-12 season, which resulted in them being crowned as Serie A champions and helped the club to win their second consecutive league title the following year. Vidal's contribution to the team was recognised by supporters, who named him as the 2012-13 Juventus Player of the Year. In November 2013, he scored the first hattrick of his career, against FC København in the UEFA Champions League.

At international level, Vidal represented Chile's Under-20 team in the 2007 South American Youth Championship and the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, impressing in both tournaments. He made his debut for the senior team later the same year and was named as part of his country's squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
