Our old pal Larry Fitz checks in at No. 7 on our list of most targeted players from 2012, which comes as a surprise due to the relative disappointment of his 2012 season from a fantasy perspective. Arizona’s quarterback situation last season was beyond miserable, and that fact is no better illustrated than by Fitzgerald’s catch rate. The passes that targeted Fitzgerald weren’t exactly humming from the cannon of Aaron Rodgers, as Fitz only reeled in 46 percent of the 156 passes intended for him last season. Seeing the Cardinals’ stud on this list is no shock, but seeing the normally sure handed Fitzgerald the lowest among the Top 10 options in catch rate certainly points the bulk of the blame at John Skelton, Kevin Kolb, and Ryan Lindley. Yuck.
As for 2013, wash those crusty quarterback names from your mouth and get ready for the return of Larry Fitzgerald. While the arrival of Carson Palmer in Arizona may not signal Super Bowl hopes, Palmer does chuck the ball around to the great delight of fantasy football players. Fitzgerald, with an adequate quarterback and Bruce Arians’ high powered offense at his disposal, will be a standout receiver once again. Around 150-160 targets with Palmer at the helm should result in healthy increases to Fitzgerald’s receptions, yardage, and touchdown totals this season, which give him a great shot at top five wide receiver production.
