49ers Trade LB Parys Haralson To Saints

The New Orleans Saints have traded a conditional 2014 seventh-round draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for LB Parys Haralson. Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reported that the 49ers were shopping Haralson earlier in the day, and they ended up making the deal a few hours later.
Following the loss of Will Smith, it was clear that the Saints needed to act quickly in order to shore up their already meager defense. Haralson isn’t some sort of game-changer for New Orleans, but he certainly adds depth to a unit that desperately needs a boost.
Whether he’s capable of even making it to the Saints’ final roster remains to be seen, but he certainly has a good chance with all of the team’s losses on defense.
Haralson was probably going to be cut by the 49ers anyway, so they have potentially gained an extra pick in the 2014 NFL draft for essentially nothing. They slashed his salary from $2.57 million to $1.15 million in March, and it was clear his time in San Francisco was coming to a close.
Haralson missed the entire 2012 season after a triceps tendon tear sidelined him for the year, and Aldon Smith’s monstrous campaign clearly made him expendable.
