Bio

Ahmad Brooks plays outside linebacker and defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers. He played his first two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the 49ers and has been named a Second-Team All-Pro selection twice.

Early Years & College

Brooks was born on March 14, 1984 in Fairfax, VA. Following the footsteps of his father Perry Brooks, a former NFL player for the Redskins, he played football at C.D. Hylton High in Woodbridge, VA from 1999 through 2001. He recorded 207 tackles as a linebacker in 2001 and was named U.S.A. Today’s National Defensive Player of the Year. After playing one season at Hargrave Military Academy, he enrolled at the University of Virginia.

As a freshman for the Cavaliers, Brooks started right away, making 117 tackles and being named ACC Defensive Freshman of the Year. As a sophomore, he again led the team with 90 tackles and 8.0 sacks on his way to being named one of three finalists for the Butkus Award. Injuries derailed his junior season, as he played in only six games and eventually was dismissed from the team for misconduct off the field.

Cincinnati Bengals

Due to the fact he was dismissed from Virginia after the 2006 NFL Draft, Brooks had to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals selected him in the third round and he made 46 tackles during 11 games as a rookie. After tearing a groin muscle in Week 2 the following season, he was placed on Injured Reserve and the team eventually waived him the following August.

San Francisco 49ers

Only one day after being waived by the Bengals, the San Francisco 49ers claimed Brooks. He did not play during the 2008 season, and only received limited playing time as a pass rush specialist the next two seasons. In 2011, he made 50 tackles and recorded 7.0 sacks, which led to a six-year extension with the 49ers worth $44.5 million. He earned All-Pro second team honors in both 2012 and 2013 and finally made the Pro Bowl in 2013 after posting career-highs with 60 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
