The Crew drew 1-1 with Supporters Shield holders San Jose in what was a fairly sloppy encounter in the home opener at Crew Stadium. That Glauber’s 68th minute opener for Columbus came from a corner kick was no surprise. The Crew struggled to create meaningful goal scoring chances in open play, but showed fantastic spirit in clawing their way into the lead. They’ll be disappointed not to have hung on for the 3 points against a San Jose team weakened by injuries- Ohio native Justin Morrow put the sides back on level pegging with a fine strike- but in the end the draw was probably a fair result.

Lineups and formations

Columbus (4-2-3-1): Gruenebaum; Williams, Marshall, Glauber, Wahl; O’Rourke, Viana; Oduro, Higuain, Speas; Arrieta

San Jose (4-4-2): Busch; Harden, Bernardez, Hernandez, Morrow; Salinas, Cronin, Baca, Corrales; Wondolowski, Jahn

The Crew started just as they had in the 2-1 loss at Vancouver a week ago. Ben Speas retained his position on the left wing with Eddie Gaven still sidelined with an ankle injury.

The only change to the San Jose side that beat New York Sunday was the introduction of Adam Jahn who replaced the injured Mike Fucito alongside Wondolowski up top.
