The only other team that could help Ohio State down the stretch is Florida — and “stretch” is the key word here.
If Miami is unable to upend Florida State in early November, the Gators are the only other team on FSU’s schedule that could give the Seminoles some trouble when they welcome FSU to “The Swamp” in the season finale rivalry game.
Unranked Florida lost to Miami, 21-16, in the second week of the season and has lost two straight to SEC foes LSU and No. 5 Missouri (as well as starting quarterback Jeff Driskel and nose tackle Dominique Easley, one of the best defensive players in the nation). The Gators welcome reeling Georgia to Gainesville this week and still have to play No. 21 South Carolina on Nov. 16.
While it is a long shot, anything can happen in rivalry games.
And For The Record...
As I highlighted, Utah showed it can hang with the big boys after shocking Stanford. The Utes (4-3, 1-3 Pac-12) are at Oregon on Nov. 16 and could be a sleeper for another upset. Utah and Oregon have tangled only three times in the BCS era and Oregon came away winners twice (2001, 2009). Utah won in 2003.
