Belgian First Division wrap: Anderlecht in stalemate
By Football News
Anderlecht were held to a goalless draw at Standard Liege on Saturday in their second match of the Belgian First Division Play-offs.
The result leaves John van den Brom's side two points clear of Zulte-Waregem in the Play-offs I group, with Zulte able to go top with a victory at Genk on Sunday.
In Play-offs II, Gent are a point clear on top of the Group A table after their 0-0 draw at Kortrijk.
Mons are just a point behind Gent in second place following their 2-1 home win over Lierse.
Jeremy Sapina and Aloys Nong put Mons 2-0 up mid way through the second half, and although Mohamed El-Gabbas pulled one back late on for Lierse, they could not find a leveller.
Sporting Charleroi moved top of Group B with goals from David Pollet, Onur Kaya and Elvedin Dzinic powering their 3-0 win over OH Leuven, while a Wesley Sonck goal gave Waasland-Beveren a 1-0 home victory against Mechelen.
And in the battle to avoid relegation, Cercle Brugge gave their hopes a boost with a 1-0 triumph over Beerschot.
A win for Beerschot would have all but booked their place in the relegation play-off and leave Cercle bracing for life in the second division, but Cercle are now just three points behind with three matches to play.
