With the news that DT Geno Atkins is going to miss the rest of the 2013 NFL season after tearing his ACL, the Cincinnati Bengals have reportedly reached out to former Dallas Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff.

Ratliff was released by the Cowboys nearly two weeks ago with a failed physical designation, and there were reports that he wouldn’t even be able to play again this season due to a setback from sports hernia surgery that has resulted in issues with his hamstring and abdomen. However, apparently a second opinion by Dr. William Myers changed all that, and he was medically cleared to play.

Ratliff has been making the rounds lately. He has visited the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears, and now the Bengals are the latest to get into the mix.

If the Bengals do indeed sign Ratliff, they would have to wait a few weeks before he’s ready for action. He’s believed to be about 2-4 weeks away from returning to the field, and even then, he’s still going to need some time to get up to full speed after not playing for about a year.
