Bio

Brandon Mebane is a defensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks. He has played his entire seven-year career with the Seahawks and previously attended the University of California.

Early Years

Mebane was born on January 15, 1985 in Los Angeles, CA and attended Crenshaw High School. He was named the 2002 Los Angeles Central City Player of the Year after making 75 tackles and 13.0 sacks as a senior and ended his career as a three-time all-city selection. He also excelled as a shot putter for the school’s track team. After starring at Crenshaw, he signed a letter of intent to continue playing football at the University of California.

University of California

As a true freshman, Mebane appeared in four games and made three tackles. He became a starter after three games in 2004, earning honorable mention All-Pac 10 recognition after making 25 tackles and six tackles for loss. He led the Bears with seven sacks as a junior and was selected First-Team All-Pac 10 as a defensive tackle. He was again named All-Pac 10 first team as a senior after accumulating 52 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks and received All-American third team recognition from Rivals.com. He graduated from California with a degree in Social Welfare.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks selected Mebane with the 85th overall pick in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He started all 16 games as a rookie and had a strong second season with Seattle, recording 39 tackles and a career-best 5.5 sacks. A calf-injury cost him four games in 2010, but he developed into one of the league’s premier defensive tackles in Pete Carroll’s defense. He recorded 56 tackles in 2011 and 2012 while battling constant double teams for the Seahawks and played a key role in the team’s Super Bowl winning season in 2013.
