Bio

Burak Yılmaz was born in Antalya, Turkey on 15 July 1985. Although primarily a centre forward, he began his professional career as a midfielder and is sometimes deployed on the flanks as a winger. At club level, he is a prolific goalscorer and is known for his finishing and heading abilities.

Yılmaz began his career with Antalyaspor, joining their youth team in 1994 and graduating to senior level in 2002. In the 2005-06 season, he scored nine goals and helped the team to gain promotion to the Süper Lig. As a result, he secured a move to Besiktas, where he enhanced his reputation as a talented prospect. In January 2008, he moved to Manisaspor as part of a player swap deal and scored nine goals in 18 appearances during the second half of the 2007–08 season.

In the summer transfer window of 2008, Yılmaz joined Fenerbahçe, but endured a difficult time, playing only six league matches and failing to score for the side. A brief loan spell to Eskişehirspor followed, before he completed a move to Trabzonspor early in 2010. The 2011-12 season proved to be something of a breakthrough season, as he scored 33 league goals in 34 matches, finishing as the Süper Lig's top goalscorer. His performances across the campaign saw him named as the Super Lig Forward of the Year. In July 2012, Galatasaray signed Yılmaz for a fee of €5 million.

The 2012-13 season was an extremely successful one, as Yılmaz helped Galatasaray to win the Süper Lig title. He scored 24 goals in 33 league matches, finishing as the division's top goalscorer for the second year in a row. His performances also earned him the Super Lig Player of the Year award. In addition, during the club's Champions League campaign, Yılmaz finished as the group stage's top goalscorer and set numerous records along the way. He became the top scoring Turkish player in single Champions League season and the player to score in the most consecutive Champions League matches; a record shared with Cristiano Ronaldo.

At international level, Yılmaz made his debut for Turkey in 2006 and has since established himself as an important player for the side. In 2013, he became the first Turkish player to ever score in five consecutive international matches.
