Can Kubiak Stay Out Of The Hot Seat?
In the 10 year history of the Houston Texans franchise, seven have had Gary Kubiak as head coach.
Much like the past few seasons, Kubiak may very well find himself on the hot seat if the team does not meet their particularly high expectations. Though he has coached the franchise from the middle of the pack to among the top teams in the NFL, the team has yet to make the Super Bowl.
Kubiak has trusted undrafted free agent Arian Foster to be the feature back and he has stuck by quarterback Matt Schaub.
Both players have been huge factors in the success of the Houston offense, along with Texans lifer Andre Johnson.
However, the defense has been the force to be reckoned with recently.
The Texans have a solid defense filled with impact players. They have drafted 10 defensive players in the first round since the team's inaugural season in 2002.
Many of the Texans recent draft choices have grown to become house hold names, such as J.J. Watt and Brian Cushing.
That said, with a solid offense and a strong defense, the excuses, if any, are no longer acceptable and fans should be expecting a Super Bowl appearance is in the very near future.
If Kubiak can not get this team to deliver soon, do not be surprised if defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is promoted, at least in the interim and especially if the first half of the season puts the team in a deep hole.
Why Phillips you may ask?
He has had previous experience as a head coach for the in-state rival Dallas Cowboys, the Buffalo Bills and the Denver Broncos. He is also the son of Bum Phillips, a former coach for the Eagles.
So if Kubiak's time in Houston ends on a sour note, would opportunities be waiting for him with another franchise?
