Cardinals' Top Pick Jonathan Cooper Placed On IR
By Adam Hurst
The Cardinals announced today on its official twitter account that seventh overall pick, Jonathan Cooper, will not play this season after suffering a broken leg in a preseason loss to San Diego last week. There was initial hope that the rookie guard out of Chapel Hill would be back at some point this year, but the Cardinals placed Cooper on injured reserve, effectively ending any shot of him playing his rookie season.
It was a devastating blow to the team when Cooper first went down, and this development doesn’t lighten things for the Cardinals, who were expecting the rookie to start and help protect new (and old) QB Carson Palmer this season. There was a lot of talk about the Arizona Cardinals making a leap with its nice combination of youth and experience.
Larry Fitzgerald, who is nothing but beloved by NFL fans league wide, seemed unwilling to accept the news of Cooper’s broken leg when he went down last week. “I hope that’s just a bad guesstimate,” Larry Fitzgerald said according to USA Today. “That’s not what I want to hear right now.”
Someone in that Cardinals locker room really needs to give Fitzgerald a hug.
Bummer for the cards and the Tarheels.
