Carlos Hyde was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 20, 1991. A running back for the San Francisco 49ers, he was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Previously, Hyde had played college football for four seasons at Ohio State University.
As a freshman, Hyde attended Princeton High School in Sharonville, Ohio, before moving to Naples High School in Naples, Florida for the remainder of his high school years. During his senior year, he registered 1,653 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, earning Player of the Year awards from multiple sources, including the Naples Daily News. Considered one of the top national prospects in his position, he was offered scholarships at the University of Florida, the University of Miami and Florida State University, before committing to Ohio State.
Prior to enrolling at Ohio State, Hyde spent a semester at Fork Union Military Academy, in order to improve his academic grades to the required level. Over the course of his first two seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes, he served as a backup running back, recording just 141 rushing yards as a freshman and 566 rushing yards as a sophomore, with six touchdowns.
Hyde experienced a major breakthrough in his junior year, as he became the starting running back for the team. Despite missing two games through injury, he was able to rush for a total of 970 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he was able to contribute one touchdown reception and was a second team All-Big Ten selection.
After an incident in a bar, Hyde was suspended for the first three games of his senior year, but returned and put in a string of good performances, amassing a career-best 1,521 rushing yards in total and chipping in with 15 rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns. At the end of the season, he was a first team All-Big Ten selection and the Associated Press named him as a third team All-American.
Following the end of his college eligibility, Hyde became available for selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was eventually picked up in the second round, 57th overall, by the San Francisco 49ers.
