Champ Bailey Ruled Out Week 2 Against Giants
By Allen Kim
Denver Broncos CB Champ Bailey has been ruled out for the team’s Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants. He sprained his left foot in Denver’s second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks in mid-August, and he’s been sidelined ever since.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie will once again fill in for Bailey, and Tony Carter will play across from him. The team currently does not have a timetable for his return to the field, and he may not even be back at practice for another week or two.
Bailey’s presence wasn’t exactly missed during the Broncos’ domination of the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore’s receiving corps is clearly not the same unit that came from behind to beat the Broncos in the playoffs last year, and Denver managed to easily win behind Peyton Manning’s historic night.
However, the Broncos face a much tougher test against the Giants and their three-headed monster at the receiver position. They’ll have to contend with a healthy Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz in the slot and emerging WR Reuben Randle opposite Nicks.
With both defenses hurting, Manning Bowl III is shaping up to be a shootout.
