The Columbus Crew (3-2-3, 12 points) notched a 3-0 home victory over Eastern Conference rival D.C. United (1-6-1, 4 points) on Saturday evening at Crew Stadium. The Black & Gold struck quickly out of the gate, scoring three first half goals en route to their third win of the 2013 MLS season. Dominic Oduro netted the first tally in the 15th-minute – his team-leading fourth goal of the year – with Crew defender Josh Williams putting home a Federico Higuain corner kick 11 minutes later. Higuain made it 3-0 in stoppage time of the first half, converting a penalty kick after striker Jairo Arrieta was fouled inside United’s area. The win gives Robert Warzycha’s side a full three points in the first of three consecutive home matches in Columbus. The Black & Gold are back in action next Saturday, May 4 against the New York Red Bulls (4:00 p.m. ET / NBC Sports Network).

The Crew’s victory came after adverse events impacted the start time of tonight’s match. Prior to the game the scoreboard on the south side of Crew Stadium caught fire. The Columbus Fire Department made an immediate response and promptly extinguished the small blaze, and no injuries were reported during the delay. The match – originally scheduled for a 7:37 p.m. kickoff — was delayed by 50 minutes due to the incident No further information is available at this time on the cause of the fire, and the club is looking into the matter in conjunction with the appropriate authorities.
